Survival Taming Manual

Standard operating procedures for taming prehistoric beasts

Core Taming Methodologies

1. Violent / Knockout Taming

The most common taming method. Requires rendering the creature unconscious before feeding it. You must deplete its torpidity pool using tranquilizers without killing it.

  • Use Bolas, Bear Traps, or stone traps to immobilize target.
  • Shoot with a Slingshot, Bow (Tranq Arrows), or Longneck Rifle (Tranq Darts).
  • Aim for high-damage/high-torpor multipliers (e.g. headshots on Raptors and Pteranodons).
  • Maintain unconsciousness by feeding Narcotics or Narcoberries remotely.

2. Non-Violent / Passive Taming

Used for taming docile or highly specialized creatures. Instead of shooting them, you feed them while they are awake, moving, and conscious.

  • Place preferred taming food in your last hotbar slot (slot 0).
  • Approach the creature from behind slowly to avoid alerting or scaring it.
  • When prompted (e.g., "Feed food to tame"), press the action key.
  • Back away immediately to avoid aggroing or crowding the creature. Wait until it is hungry again.

The Kibble Hierarchy

Kibble is the most effective taming food in the game. Using the correct tier of kibble guarantees maximum taming speed, preserves taming effectiveness (yielding maximum bonus levels), and prevents food-based taming decay.

🟢
Simple Kibble
Green Tier

Preferred by: Raptor, Triceratops, Pteranodon

🔵
Regular Kibble
Blue Tier

Preferred by: Ankylosaurus, Carno, Ichthyornis

🟡
Exceptional Kibble
Yellow Tier

Preferred by: Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus

Tactical Torpor Management

When a creature is knocked out, its torpor bar begins draining immediately. If it hits zero, the creature wakes up, and all taming progress is reset. To prevent this, you must feed them Narcotics or Narcoberries.

💊 Narcotics (Processed)

Restores 40 Torpor over 8 seconds. Narcotics do not spoil, stack up to 100, and are lightweight. Excellent for keeping large, slow-draining predators asleep.

🍇 Narcoberries (Raw)

Restores 7.5 Torpor over 3 seconds. While Narcoberries have a spoil timer, they are actually superior for fast-decaying creatures (like Spinos and Pteranodons). Because the torpor is added slowly, it halts the natural torpor decay of the creature for a longer total duration!
